My first suspicion is the fuel pump. My second suspicion would be the needle valves in the carb float bowls. An RMTC club member recently had the same problem you mention (1 1/2 gallons of fuel and

Yeah, those lovely Grose Jets (or "gross jets") can lead to some fun unscheduled oil changes, as all that extra fuel that gets dumped into the cylinders leaks past the piston rings and into the sump.
