A think some MGB owners are incorrectly assuming that they can use regular just because the engines are four cylinder. The shop manual specifies 98 RON octane for the HC (8.8:1) engines and 93 RON oc

I believe that the original TD was to be able to run of "Pool Petrol." At the time, this was only 70 RON according to a MG book I have. My TD has a 9.3:1 CR. I have found it necessary to run it quit

Bob, You are right, the number of cylinders has nothing to do with octane requirements; but, I can't see any reason why a car running 8.8:1 compression ratio can't use regular gasoline. The bottom li

An interesting proposition, Walt. However, remember that T-series cars were sold as sports cars and many were, indeed, used in competition in the Fifties and Sixties (and some are still being so used

Stupid is putting it much too strongly. Your mistake is commonly made by the public at large, who think that higher octane must be better and will give them more power, more hair, less midriff bulge.

Hey guys... watchit! No carbon build up in this (11+:1) engine (yet). OK, I am putting my car in the hands of the experts this Saturday. It is going on the dyno again and it will be tuned for the 98

Well, if you're running your compression that high, I can see the potential for higher octane demands, too. Just out of curiosity, why run 11:1? What sort of racing are you doing? the most efficient

Bill great message. Now, is there some type of "chart" that would suggest which octane is recommended for various compression ratios? (P.S. I'll be trying the increased octane for the midriff and hai

Actually it is more like 10+:1 - and my racing is purely sprints at the moment. Just go flat out for four laps then get off. Actually they are SuperSprints where we often get to do a little play-raci

MIT has a two-volume text on the topics that we <almost> discuss -- including the engine requirements. It isn't as easy as CR to octane because of MANY other parameters like heat range of plug, head

I don't think Eric's engine would be an 18V. Production of the B in Austrailia ended in what, '72? Which would make it an 18G. Right? Paul. '77B -- Paul T. Root - CCSA, CCSE, CCNA 600 Stinson Blvd, F
