If the RBBs are the same as the CBBs, that cable is a stiff steel wire and not prone to breaking. Although the cable/housing may be rusted, it's more likely the little flapper door in the heater box

Beware this cable may hit the rheostat when being loose at the knob side. Made twice a short in my GT, cost a longish loom overhaul twice. Better be carefull! And yes fixing the cable at the flap sid
