I've been watching the OD discussions, plus the comment from Gerardo of being tired of cruising at 5000 rpm (me too). Actually, anything over 3000 RPMs I know I'm burning up the gas, but I just can't

I run my engine near redline all the time, I have driven it from Co to Oh a couple of times at no less than 4500 rpm for 20 hours straight, I love it and my car loves it, but I do beleive that it wea

I can't really think that high RPMs are that bad in themselves. After all, the engine was designed for it! Besides the obvious fact that every stroke of a piston creates an infinitesimal additional i

I took my 'A' on a 400 mi TSD rally a couple of weekends ago in very hilly SE Ohio and ran it pretty hard the whole day. Next morning (the first cold night it has spent outside) it started up faster

My '76 B daily-driver has o/d as does my temporarily-out-of-service '73 GT, but the car that does all the really long trips is my '73 without o/d. I have an o/d box for it, and one of these years it

Deal List: This whole discussion makes one wonder about the meaning of the redline is, anyway. I assume it represented the point at which the cooling system could no longer dissipate heat at the rate

The tach on my A has a 'yellow' line at 5500 rpm and the redline at 6000. I do have the original tach in place. Gordie Bird

I'd be curious to hear from some of the more knowledgable posters regarding this subject. I would have assumed the redline would have more to do with valve float, piston centrifugal forces, crank whi

As Matt has suggested, redline has to do with engine speed, and is almost always the point in the RPM range when valve float will begin to occur. Valve float will immediately limit the engine RPM's b

Umm, I suspect you are laboring under a misconception. The redline does not indicate some sort of temperature limitation, but a mechanical limitation; i.e. the upper limit of piston and valve speed.
