It should be the same starter that was used in early spridgets. I remember that Napa didn't have one listed for the MGA but were able to cross reference to the Midget. The starter they gave me was id

A little click? How little? Was it barely audible, like only the contacts of the manual switch? Or did it make a louder click like something may have moved when the switch made contact? A common star

You might try Santa Rosa Auto Parts or another NAPA parts place. Last time I needed a starter they had them (on the shelf!!!) for $45 with a 3 year warranty. Ron 58 MGA Santa Rosa, Ca.
