The fuel pump is good, I just rebuild it a few months ago. The problem is a sporadic ignition problem. 99% of the time the car runs great but occasionally the ignition will loose spark literally for

I had this exact same problem with my 1977 MGB for a while... I figured out that if I wiggled the loom of wires under the hood on the passenger side of the fire wall, the ignition would come back on

James you might want to check the small wire inside the distributor. I had a similar problem, the wire looked fine, but inside the insulation it was broken. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

If the tach instantly drops then it is definitely the ignition LT circuit i.e. ignition - coil - points/capacitor. If the ignition warning lamp came on then it is 12v going off the white or brown./wh
