An MGB does this if the gulp valve (injects air into the intake on the overrun) is defective. If you have one, maybe it is only opening with the higher vacuum caused by revving to 3000 first. about /

My 78 midget is backfiring--not too badly, and generally when shifting from first to second as the engine slows down a little. It's not very loud, but it's something I would prefer the car not do. th
