- Hello All, Yesterday afternoon I pulled into my drive way, shut off my '77 MGB and noticed a sound like a table saw makes when the power is shut off (kind of a slinnngggg chang chang chang). I though

- The alternator fan fouling the alt body? Is there a bearing in there that's dying and as it lets go the belt tension is pulling the fan/pulley out of alignment? The fan (I'm talkin' engine fan now) m

- This is pure speculation.... It sounds like something is spinning on after the engine stops turning for a couple of seconds. It also sounds like it's something that isn't supposed to turn. Do you ha

- It's not clear from your message whether the entire noise is due to dieseling/run-on or if there is something else. I must say my B runs on occasionally, and when it does it has a very metallic, clan

- If the noise is only during run-on, could the engine be shaking enough (bad mounts combined with the natural shake of run on?) so that something nowhere near the pulleys is clanging on something? I'm

- Real long shot here, but it happened. On my 60 MGA I had a spinning, grating, clanging noise I couldn't diagnose as starter related, gear box related or anything else. Turned out to be the dust cap o

- This is probably the alternator fan. Mine started with an intermittent tinkling which developed into full time tintinabulation. The front bearing wears in the direction of the load and the shaft gets

- Oh yeah, that reminds me. My radiator fan was very noisy until I replaced the rubber grommets. This is the 3-blade metal fan. I suppose the 77 won't have this problem... but I can see the alternator
