In the filter head there is a rubber sealing ring. It may have stuck to your old filter and now its gone. Remove the filter and feel around the outside edge, or use a mirror. ...Art

Since you've done your own changes for so long, this probably isn't the I had the same problem with my 72. Turned out that either the DPO or DCO (dumb current owner <g>) cross threaded the shaft, so

Thanks very much for replying. Seems you are correct. In this case it was the DCO "Dumb Current Owner" who cross threaded the shaft. I guess it was denial that made me rule that out without checking.
