- What Paul said, Kirk.... While I am sure you can use synthetic oil, the synchros most likely will not be as effective as they would be, considering the box was built with petroleum based oils in mind

- The MGA has a dipstick stuck in the filler hole accessed through the tunnel carpet. The Bugeye, and others, have an access hole throught the top of the tunnel near the heater wall and have a fitting

- Filling the smoothcase isn't that bad. First the bolt you are talking about goes to the rear tranny mount. You can pour oil in there all day and never fill the tranny or the tunnel as it will all end
