Hmm, how much play are we talking about? How easy was the hub to push onto the banjo? If it was pretty easy, perhaps your problem is wear on the bearing/seal seat of the banjo. This would show up as

No grease. The diff oil should lube them. Press the bearings in with an hydraulic press, arbor press, or hammer and wood block. It is always a good idea to lube seals with a little oil before assembl
