When the fuel pump diaphragm is wanging away it tends to suck dirt in and out of the coil and points areas. These nipples allow you to hook up tubes to areas of "clean air" such as the boot area, or

As previously said they terminate in the boot, although on my 73 the two pipes go to separate T-fittings of different sizes and different pipe size. There is nothing else on the arms of the Ts, just

Many thanks for all the helpful advice on the mounting of my SU fuel pump. I have decided that I shall mount it safely in the back with the spare tyre but put a guard around it so nothing bashes it -
