I splurged for new jets and needles for my SU's. Woohoo! When replacing the needles attached to the vacuum-lifted "plungers" (sorry not sure what they're called) should I push the base of the needle

When I rebuilt my first set I pushed them all the way in and found that the carbs couldn't be shut off. What I did then was to slightly loosen the needles and pulled them out about a !/4 of and inch
