- Yep... been there, done that, except it in the Cruiser, at 75 mph and the windshield shatterd and I was covered in glass. The bonnet still has some scars from that one, I don't thankfully. Not fun,

- Frank, I once drove my bug-i from Reno to Sack-o-tomato with the bonnet unlatched at 70-80 mph and no safety catch. It never showed any sign of lifting. Just the thought of what could have happened..

- Had the same problem on my 77 Midget. The bonnet/latch must have been misadjusted since the problem went away when I took the bonnet off and then re-installed the bonnet. Gilroy

- It is an issue in a bugeye if you're going over 90 mph. Found that one out the hard way. It didn't do the bonnet hinges any good. The windshield wipers took a beating, but not our heads, thank goodne

- Hi Amy, I guess that you did not have the bonnet locked closed ? Perhaps the locking mechanism is missing ? It should be impossible for a stock bonnet to lift at speed. I'm glad that you are ok. BTW,
