Hello all, I'm currently rebuilding my spare carb (Stromberg 150-CDSE) for my '69 Spit. Since this is my first carb rebuild, I didn't want to mess the one that is on the car working (not perfectly mi

WHy does your car have a stromberg on it? I would think it should have a set of HS2's. If you're going to put on a new carb, why don't you go back to the SU carbs. Much better than the Stromberg, an

Switch was done by PO. I do have the original HS2 with intake manifold but they too need rebuilding (actually, MAJOR rebuilding). For now, I just want to keep things simple (I'm new at all this mecha

Seriously, if you have to rebuild one, just do the HS2s. THey're really simple to rebuild. Get the Haynes Weber,SU,and Stromberg carb manual. Read up on the HS2s and rebuild them. Joe Curto in Queen

In my humble opinion, 2 HS2's are still less trouble than 1 ZS. My recommendation is to rebuild the SU's and you'll thank yourself later. Joe

You guys are really too "down" on the ZS. IMHO of course! Yeah, the SUs make more power, but a properly-operating ZS works fine on a stock US spec Spit. (I'm not including the water choke, my ZS is c

The point is that the ZS is harder to tune and IMHO not as reliable as a good ole SU. Joe

My ZS ran fine. I had it off the car for a year, and when I bolted it and its manifold on, the car started right up and the carb needed only an idle adjustment. And, it's a LOT easier to tune a singl

Sure, if it is already tuned. But if it is completely disassembled and put back together, I find that the SU's are easier. But then, I have a lot more experience with SU's than those Strombergs. Joe

Point taken about tuning for power. Reliability? I don't know, there are many carb threads started every year for ZS, SU and even Weber! As far as tuning a ZS for proper running, I will admit that my
