Eric, it appears you may have a leaky master cylinder (clutch of course!). I had the same symptoms on both a Volvo and an early model B. Rebuilding the master cylinder did the trick in both cases. It

Isn't it pretty hard on the gearbox to be sitting with the clutch in at stops? I always pop into neutral at a stoplight to minimize pressure on the thrust washer and at the throwout bearing. Anybody

Just to cheer you up......worn main bearings on the first and third motion shafts. What you describe is the classic test for them. They are the two big ball bearings each end of the gearbox. Neil
