It depends on if you have a solid belt or a cogged one. On my 65 4A just by cranking the wheels(can't remember left or right) there is just enough room to slip the belt under the steering rack. One

Some people have found that just jacking the engine up a little against the mounts (without loosening them) gives enough clearance. Another thing that helps is to get a thinner fan belt. Cummins 178
