BTDT...I worried about the same thing, finally decided to cut out the angles and replace them with larger ones (about 8" x 11") of fairly heavy sheet metal with a hole precut to accept 4" speakers. S

I cut circular sections as described and mounted small speakers without adverse results. A more elegant solution was posted by Chip Krout as part of a series of restoration photos awhile back. TN_Vie

I have 4 1/2 inch Pioneers in that place. No problem at all. You have to be very careful to place them so that the magnets don't rattle against the tank. Screw them to the panel, not the steel. That
