Seeking wisdom here - Car is a '74 Midget, totally stock 1275 engine, 79,000 miles, desmogged, with intake and header mods as outlined in David Vizard's book. I took off the old intake manifold and d

Sounds like the fuel in the float bowl is sloshing forward and causing the float to rise up and shut off fuel. Try orienting the top of the float bowl so the axis of the float is across the car, rath

I did not adjust the angle of the float bowl when I installed the carb. Could you glance at one of your Spridgets and tell me what angle the float bowls are at? Does anybody have a chrome bumpered M

I tried all three float orientations, and the one across the axis is by far the best and the one I have used for the past year. If memory serves, doesn't your MGA have the same basic type engine as

I'm running a single H4 carb on my 1275 with a custom manifold and it doesn't have that problem. The PO was very careful when he designed the manifold to insure that the float bowl would be at the c

David's on the right track, IMHO. Make sure the float bowl is level. You didn't say exactly which carb you had. If it's an HIF-4 (integral float bowl below the carb body) then the jet pickup tube sho

Ummmm level, flat, parallel with the ground, stuff like that? <G> You can fiddle with the rubber mounting grommet that sets the bowl angle. Steal one off of the Sprite carbs. The HS series are the sa

You guys are good!! Obviously it's the float bowl, and probably the angle. The carb is an HS-4, and I've tried both the left and right carb, with the same effect - stalls on heavy braking, though cha

Back when I was debating how to put my extra HS-4s onto my Midget, I talked to David Vizard, the guy who wrote the performance book on these engines, and he said there was little advantage to dual 1

I'm running a single HS2 on my 67 sprite w/ a metro manifold and I modified the carb per Vizard instructions. A couple of things to pay attention to. 1. The float bowl angle is wrong w/ the Mtero man

The difference is that at higher rpm the time spend seeing one big carb rather than 2 little ones gets less and less and the carb runs out of airflow (I think).
