If you are using the original fuel pump, it works with contacts which can stick at odd times. The immediate fix is to bang on the pump with a screwdriver handle, freeing up the points. Long range fix

Hi Joe, If you had only 8 volts at the power lead going to the pump, you have some bad connections. You can't blame it on low battery voltage unless you measured it. Unlikely anyway, with only 8 volt
