It's true that brake line fittings seal on the flare, but I've been using Teflon tape on brake fittings and other threaded mating parts on my BJ8 (and other cars) ever since I had to break the first

Anti-seize is definitely the way to go. In addition to the fitting threads, I like to put a little on the end of the line between the pipe and the nut, so the fitting can't ever rust onto the pipe.
