BIG NO! You don't want to put any sealant on those threads for the simple reason that if it gives way for any reason, you will have an instant leakpossibly when you need to stop!

Hi Glenn You should not need any jointing compound as the pipe flares are what seals, if they don't seal they are either done wrong or the wrong type. There are two types of flare, single and double,

No! The threads are very rarely involved in sealing the joint, wheel cylinders and whatnot are always sealed at the joint between the end of the tube and a seat. The only exception I can think of is

If teflon tape is verboten, what's the best way to seal the drain plugs to the sump, trans and differential? The replacement plugs installed in my car are not the tapered ones. Bill Stagg 1960 TR3A
