Lot of correspondence on this somewhere recently. Didn't take a great deal off notice but I *think* the end result was that one has to modify one of the bits as well as reverse it. I think the recomm

I looked into it once and if memory serves, the fastest way to do it was going to be a new toothed lock. The lock has three teeth to engage the gear that bolts to the body, it pivots in the center an

The other day when it was near zero here in Missouri, I pulled the 79B out of the garage and set the emergency brake by pulling it up briskly. I felt it give somewhat and when I released and reset it

This is likely just another cold weather phenomenon. I tend to be very hesitant to use the emergency brake in subzero temperatures because sometimes it sticks, noticeable when you release and reset t

One thing an MGB handbrake (in fact any BL car) is not, is an emergency brake. It is a parking brake ... and some even have trouble with that. Just try driving along at 30 on a flat and level road an

David, Paul, Hans, et al. Thanks for the advice. I think I just put a new cable on this car last year-but maybe that was on the 67B-I'll have to check. Anyhow, I'll get under there first chance. I ha

IMHO: When the feds made dual circuit hydraulic brakes mandatory, the manufactures no longer felt it was necessary to provide good hand/emergency brakes. Today's handbrakes can barely hold a parked c

Can't speak for any other marque but on the MGB the change from single to dual circuit brakes wasn't accompanied by any change to the handbrake, they were always crap. In more modern cars than the MG

I dimly remember some article that said you could make the MGB handbrake a 'fly-off' version by reversing the little cog thing that holds against the other cog thing. Anyone tried this? Does it work?
