My BJ8 overdrive operated very similarly when I first bought the car. O/D would seem to work normally until after cruising for a while; if I had to stop for any reason, the O/D would not shift back

Hi Bob, As Steve suggests the most likely cause is the accumulator. Either the "O" ring between the case and the accumulator body or excessive scoring of the bore. You can remove the accumulator from

B4 doing all this, I'd pull the piston and see if the pin hole is blocked--if so, clean it out and re-install--see if that clears up the problem. It has happened to my OD with the same results. tom
