That "support" was added somewhere around 1975. You will also notice "hooks" mounted on the firewall. I believe that the in the event of a front end crash, the "support" was supposed to catch on the

I do believe you to be correct, but My '76 I had did not have it nor the brackets. To my understanding there were some safety changes made in '77. Perhaps that was when they made the changeover. Patr

Off the top of my head, I think the motor is silver, and the bracket is black. On my '77 1500, I believe the bonnet is symetrical, although I can't remember for sure. But this is a right-hand-drive
