Bob---Being a little partial to the '73 edition of the TR6, I'm sure
you'll enjoy it.
The dynamic timing, by the book, is 4 degrees ATDC with the vacuum line
open to the distributor. IF the line here is not showing vacuum for any
reason, set the timing at 10 BTDC +/- 2 degrees, and plug this line, or
fix the cause. (TRF used to stock these TVC units.)

The thermostatic vacuum control at the radiator hose connection should
be open, allowing vacuum to retard the distributor timing. When coolant
temps reach a critical state, the valve closes off this vacuum source,
thereby advancing the timing at idle. This cools off the coolant by
virtue of increased engine speed, along with the slight gain in engine
efficiency that such a timing advance brings.

If you plan on doing your own work, and don't already have one, now's
the time to invest in a good manual, available from the major parts
suppliers for our cars.
