The distributor gear may be off a tooth. I had trouble fitting my tach cable
last fall. It barely stretched to the distributor. I was advised that this
may be the problem. The engine ran OK, so the timing may have been adjusted
to compensate for this. I am just finishing a complete overhaul. With the
distributor fitted and timed properly, the front vacuum unit points slightly
away from the engine.
