        Wayne:

If you need to replace one lifter, you must replace all the lifters
and the camshaft too.

Lifters wear mate to their respective lobes. If all you do is an
R&R, you must return
the lifters to their original bores, or you risk a lobe failure in short
order. If any lobe
or lifter is worn, then the cam and lifters must be replaced as a set, or
you will have a
nasty surprise in a couple of hundred miles.

Check Shane Ingates cam page for some alternatives to the S2
camshaft.

Whether or not this is the right cam depends on what you want. Do
you want a near
stock idle? Then it is probably not quite what you want. It has a slight
lope (S2 users,
chime in here), or so I have been told. Normally 270 degrees of seat timing
is the limit
for a near stock idle, the S2 is 282, a touch on the high side.
The GP2 is slightly better for idle, the isky Z19 or the Elgin TR5
replacement
would be a bit safer yet.
As always, it all depends on what you want, and how much you are
willing
to pay... <grin>

Listers,

After removing all the parts of the engine this past weekend, I found:

1. Conrods straight (so I will re-use).
2. Rocker shaft has worn out grooves at every rocker (toast, I will buy new,
probably TRF)
3. Timing chain slack (.475) (I will buy new from TRF, plan on keeping both
sprockets, they look even, not worn to one side)
4. Lifters (tappets) 6 out of 12 are toast, full of nicks and slightly
concave. (I will buy new)
5. Cams on camshaft has 6 out of 12 good looking (not measured yet), but the
other 6 are slightly pitted. Is this cam toast or can it be fixed? Or am I
better off buying a better cam? What is this S2 cam I keep hearing about?
How do I benifit by using it? I have heard that having the cam machined can
be expensive and the end reult questionable.
All comments welcome.

Currently comparing prices from the big 3 and making a list.
Should I wait for TRF winter parts sale?
