Steve,
I did this in 2001. You will need to punch down the nipple that prevents the
2 rails from coming apart. This takes a big hammer and a broad punch. Be
sure to support the bottom of the rail on a hard surface before applying the
hammer.
My first idea was to clean the parts on a wire wheel and then clear coat. I
had a bit too much rust and so shot them with a primer then sliver paint.
They look good.
Once you get the rails apart, you will find 2 steel rollers on each side (4
per seat). These need to have a rubber o-ring on each end. If your car is
typical, the o-rings will be destroyed or gone entirely. I have a bag of
these and will part with the 16 you need for a modest sum (contact me off
list if interested).
All in all, it is not a tough job and it makes adjusting the seat much
easier.
