So basically, I have plenty of time before it gets really bad! I'll keep my
eye on the coolant level. Oil level seems to hold pretty well.

Tony may be correct if it is a small leak of coolant and is getting sucked
into the cylinder on deceleration along the same principle as the valve
guides. I guess the issue is what smoke are you really seeing - white which
indicates water or light grayish blue which indicates oil. When you see
water vapor you'll know it - it's really white. And yes, at some point you
will be running low on coolant if it were a head gasket. Have someone
stamd on the side of the road as you go during deceleration and smell it. A
good sniff of the stuff will definitely tell you what it is.
I let the guides on my original motor get so bad that on deceleration at
high speed there would be a trail of smoke billowing out of my exhaust to
the point where it was hard to see cars behind me. I probably deserved a
ticket!
