Clancy asked about piston markings. I will pass on what is stamped on
the top of AE
pistons, as well as part of their instruction sheet:
Tthe top of the piston itself will be stamped with its size, such as
2.960..... +.020. The instruction sheet that comes boxed with each
piston will include the piston diameter in millimeters, such as 74.98.
It should also show the cylinder-to-piston clearance, which is also in
millimeters, as 0.02 Two tenths of a mm is pretty small, like .0008.
0.021 would then be .00083. Any chance that these last numbers (0.02)
are what you are questioning?

i'm tearing down an engine on a 73 tr6 i'm restoring, inspecting the
piston tops they are marked x20 and x21, at first i figured the x 20 was
20 oversize, whats up with the x21 on two pistons ? any enlightment
would be appreciated. the conn. rod and crank bearings were all
