I'll check but I'm pretty sure I got the old one out (I have installed a
spin-on filter on my wife's car ONCE with the old gasket left on and know
very well the embarsing consequences!). The seal was very diffcult to
remove from the '74 when I took the adaptor off but the seal on the 76 just
fell out when I pulled the filter case.
I'll remove and recheck tonight, maybe there is still an extra one from
when the PO installed the adaptor(?) or maybe there are some little bits
remaining that I missed as Mark suggested.
