This is Alex's suggustions:
 
Do not know if this will post, if someone receives please 
forward on to the
list. I had a similar problem with my bonnet. Fooled around 
for what seemed
liked hours. My simple solution was to loosen the locking 
latch for the
bonnet and lower it. Than let the bonnet down, adjust all 
the rubber stops.
Snug up the hinge bolts as necessary and then tighten. Then 
raise the lock
and fasten. Worked like a charm.
