Al:
Your clutch is probably not disengaging completely
when you depress the pedal. Does the clutch engage close to the floor?
Probably just needs an adjustment....

Listers,
Can anyone give me a clue about why when I depress the clutch petal a
random intermittent times I cannot get the car in gear? The only way I
can recover from this very annoying problem is to turn off the engine
depress the clutch and I can go into normal tranny operations with any
further problems until the next time which is now occuring once every
day.
I have a vanden Akker conversion Celica '83 5 speed tranny.
Al Graffam 74 CT.
