Bob,

I think the answer to your question is "a lot of hope".  Mine has also
fallen apart a couple of times.  I looked at the assembly and my best
guess is that it is "staked" in place. 

I just pushed mine back together and it has been fine.

What holds it to the back of the key switch? My original switch fell
completely apart.
