Adam,

Richard Seaton forwarded me a spring compressor that I copied and worked
well.  I've checked my files and seem to have discarded it but I'm sure he
will forward if you request it.  As far as removing the springs, by turning
the wheel in either direction, should lower the wheel enough that the spring
will remove.  Give it a try.
