 Hi Ron,

I chose a gloss finish when I redid my dash. I like the finish and it doesnt
seem to me to be too "glossy". If you check out the triumphowners link below
you can view the dash in three different views to see if you like how it looks
with a gloss finish.

I used Minwax, indoor/outdoor Helmsman spar urethane. The side of the can says
that if offers exceptional protection from sunlight, rain/moisture and
temperature changes. Three types of protection I thought were pretty important.

I applied one coat without sanding then sanded the second coat very lightly.
Added another, sanded, added another, sanded, etc. In this way the urethane
filled any gaps or low spots. I used a small block sander with very fine sand
paper. You can add as many coats as needed until the dash is flat and you end
up with your perfect finish. It took me at least three tries with my final coat
since the first couple tries sure looked nice and smooth when wet but they
either didnt dry smooth, had an unseen air bubble or an unseen piece of lint or
debris managed to find its way onto the dash.

Fire away if you have any more questions.

 Subject: TR6 Dashboard finish?

  Listers:
I've just finished veneering some burl walnut onto my
TR6 dash and am now considering what to finish it
with. I believe a '71 TR6 had a satin finish to it so
that's what I plan to go with. Other than that and the
need for UV stability, I'm open for suggestions. I'm
curious what you've used, how you used it, and how
happy you are with it. If you used a filler for some
of the voids, what did you use?

As always, any and all input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
