        If you short the wires together to the "bad" OD switch, does the
solenoid activate?

        If yes, you have a bad switch or the connections are corroded.

        If no, it seems that you have an open in the wiring harness to
that switch.

My "A" type O/D had begun to have a mind of its own as to when it would
engage. So I cleaned out the filter and it worked like a champ for about
a
month then did not work at all. Thinking it was the solenoid, replaced
it.
When I turn the ignition switch on, put it in 3rd or 4th gear, nothing
happens. If I put in 2nd gear, the solenoid will actuate. Thinking it
might be
a bad switch on the gearbox cover, I switched them but get the same
results.
Any suggestions?
