Great - thanks for the info. I will pack my own bearings and save the
grease and the tool purchase.
Cheers,
Jim Henningsen

Jim---Bearing packers are good for when doing large bearings, or a lot
of them.. As you surmised, he pressure ensures that grease is forced
into and between all of the balls, or rollers, right away. But these
packers are messy, and waste a lot of grease when doing small jobs.
Grease that falls down inside the hub doesn't do the bearings much good.
Get the inside bearing to hold as much grease as possible, and do
likewise with the outer bearing. The cup will help replenish grease to
the outer, should the need arise.

Ok - dumb question #75. I am fitting the new up-rated front axle kit
from Uncle Jack's Racing with Timkin bearings. I cleaned out all of the
old grease that was inside the hubs and there was a ton. My question is
how much grease should be packed inside the hub. Also, is it really
necessary to have one of those bearing grease packing tools. It is
plastic and surrounds the bearing and I guess helps get the grease
inside the bearing.
Thanks in advance,
