Colin---The size you want is 1/8 inch Allen, also known as a hex key
wrench, at stores such as Sears. The length needs to be about seven
inches. These T-handled wrenches are also sold separately at some
stores.
It is possible to adjust the needle height without the "special tool".
This requires that the adjustment screw not be stuck in the uppermost
position, or that the screw not be frozen from lack of oil, or extended
shelf life.
One can take off the top of the carburetor and watch the diaphragm
rubber to be sure it isn't being twisted beyond it's elasticity, during
the adjustment. If you can hold the damper tube from turning, the hex
key wrench should work.
If not comfortable with this method, get the "carburetor adjusting
tool." They're not all that expensive.
