My ring gear bolts were also finger tight. I changed them one by one ant
used spcified (awful, was it 50 lbf??) torgue, but I did not adjust the
diff, so that crying sound got even worse. I had to buy a spares diff, and
it is quiet.
A friend of mine told he was driwing his Sunbeam Arrow automatic when a
ring bolt got loose and passed between the gears (it did not stuck). He
said the sound was very odd, but the bolt fell finally to the bottom of the
housing causing no harm.
