You need to have a look at the wiring on this again. It's important that
the OD unit is wired properly. If it is not disengaging in reverse, it
will screw up the OD unit. Sounds to me like the back up lights are
wired into the OD circuit though. I'm trying to remember... Don't
Alpines with both OD and backup lights have two lockout switches? One
for the OD unit on one side and one for the back up lights on the other?
I think this might be your problem. Think about it... if the OD unit and
back up lights are sharing the same switch, the lights would shine
whenever the OD unit was activated. I seen to recall Alpines with both
OD and backup lights haveing two of these switches. It's not a
combination you see everyday and actually pretty uncommon. Was this car
factory equipped with both, or have you or a previous owner added one or
the other? Can anyone else shed some light on this? I have early cars
with OD, but none have back up lights. I can't find anything the the
workshop manual that clearly answers the question either. - Ian
