Yes, Louis, I spent last weekend with my two boys doing the same thing and
that's one of the experiences not to be missed as a Dad. My youngest son
made a lobster and the other made 'Spongebob' lay1ng down like a street-luge
rider. Both were pretty neat looking and won awards for design. Spongebob
took 6th in a group of over 60 cars, so that's not too bad, either.
Congratulations on your children's success!

Vaya con Dios, Louis. Our hearts go with you in your fight for peace and
security.

-Kevin

History doesn't always repeat itself! This is a little OT, I know, but might
be of limited interest to Sunbeamers. For my son's first, and last, pinewood
derby, we decided to make actual Sunbeam cars. Louie chose the "Silver
Bullet", while I chose the "1000 HP" car, both of which set land speed
records, though the Silver Bullet failed to break the records they were
shooting for. We spent a lot of time developing these cars and tried to make
them as accurate to scale and appearance as we could within the parameters
of
Pinewood Derby rules. Without boring you, both of our cars, and my daughters
"pink" car made a big smash, and won a number of awards for most innovative
design and craftsmanship. The coup de grace was that Louie's Silver Bullet
took second place OVERALL!! The races were so close they had to race 6 times
to determine due to ties! We had visual judging so if a photo finish was
needed, they ran the cars again. It was supposed to be 2/3. That tells you
it
was close! I was expecting my 1000 HP to win, like it did years ago, but the
Silver Bullet was the one to keep up the proud Sunbeam Motor heritage. If I
can figure out a way to get the photos posted for you viewing, I will do so
for those of you who might be interested. As many of you know, I am leaving
for Kuwait here soon. I don't think I could have spent my last weekend with
my
son and daughter any better.
