Hey there,
Ten years experience overseas, New Zealand and Iceland.. After a couple
stints down in New Zealand (Navy) I can tell ya there are only two ways to
get it there... Ship it out on a ship.. there are several companies that
specialize in shipping autos as general freight.. others will be just happy
to tie it down wherever they have room. Takes the military from 20-60 days
to deliver overseas. Much depends on where you are shipping from, and when.
If the ship is leaving the next day, you're styling!! Australia pretty much
requires loading on the west coast to minimize transit time and minimize
unstable canal zones.
Air freight is possible.. How do you think they get all those fancy F1 cars
to South America? It is pricey though.. Costs a buck and a half to Air mail
a post card to Oz. Ultimately it is up to the buyer to decide what he
wants... This is well beyond reasonable delivery distances... Another
tip... be sure to inventory and crate any loose spares or anything else not
bolted to the car... Things do tend to disappear sitting on the dock
There are risks though.. I've had several friends' cars severely damaged
in shipping. Salt spray, improper shoring, delivery drivers hitting curbs,
and in one case an entire household sent to Davy Jones locker!! Everything I
or my folks have shipped made the transit fine.
Hope this helps!
