I am on vacation in Maine, 1000 miles from my local honda shop, and as
luck would have it, my car (90 Civic Si) is not behaving. If any of you
mechanical types would like to offer an opinion here are the issues..

issue #1
the car keeps loosing coolant. The hose coming off of the top of the
radiator is loose so that it is not pulling coolant back out of the
overflow tank. The result is that I have to put about a cup of water in
every gas stop. I glued the hose, but it came undone when it got hot.
The plastic fitting at the top of the radiator is broken so I can not
hose clamp it... any ideas?

Issue # 2

My car does not like to go into 3rd gear, it grinds on up shifts and down
shifts. sounds really bad. If I heal toe on a down shift or give it a
second on the up shift it is not as bad, but still not good. Once I get
it in gear it is fine, it does not pop out or anything. This one is
going to cost me some duckies, huh? Do you think there would be a
problem driving it home, or should I get it looked at up here? There is
a.... gulp... dealership????

I can put coolant in it every now and then, assuming that you do not
think I am doing any damage to the engine, do you think that will be ok,
until I get it home?

thanks for the time...
