Just a guess, but this might have something to do with looking ahead.

Novices have a lot of trouble with looking ahead at all.

Intermediates, once they get the idea, do a pretty good job of looking
ahead, but often stop at the A-pillars (they won't look out the side
windows).

The next step, it seems to me, is that people are able to look ahead
to the left out the side, but not out the right.  The vision in most
cars is considerably more restricted that way, and that might have
something to do with it.  So maybe you just have to concentrate more on
looking ahead to the right -- and doing it sooner.  Allow yourself more
time to find your target out the right window than you might out the
left.

Just a guess.  It might have something to do with the mechanics of the
car too, but I'm always inclined to look for an explanation in the
driving technique.
