I always liked those too. Had an Opel Manta but never the GT.
When I was in college in Troy, NY two local
brothers autocrossed their Opel GTs and were usually near FTD.
There is now an Opel GT running ITA (?) in the NE now and doing VERY well.
One thing you will need is a LSD, for some reason Opels have one
wheel drive in stock configuration.
