A quick look at the results pages for the Ponca City race shows
something like 75 classes with an average of about 30 entrants each.
However I am not sure if there are really 2200 entrants since no bike
has a number greater than 1000 and they don't seem to be using a
separate numbering system for each class like we do.
Google indicates that some old motorcycle events like the
Barstow-to-Vegas race used to attract 3000-5000 entrants back in the
70's (http://www.amadirectlink.com/magazine/2001/story1aug.htm).
Couldn't find any indication what the entry levels are in the current
resurrected version however, I suspect no where near as much or the BLM
wouldn't let them run.
Here's an interesting question: What is the largest closed-course
motorsports event in the world in terms of number of spectators? I
doubt that anyone will get the answer (hint, it's not the Indy 500!).
