Anyone who runs an indexed class, be it Street Tire, or a Novice class,
uses an index based on and R-rated tire used in a corresponding class.
Thus, STS/Novice must use the STR index rather than the STS index. In
Street tire, the same thing holds true, and entrants, even if driving an
STS car must use the STR index because all the rest of the cars use an
index based on classes where the index is derived from R tire classes.
If someone runs in the Street Tire class, s/he should mark her/his card
STire/STR, even if it's an STS class car. If this person doesn't mark it
that way, I'll change it to the STR index anyway.
On the other point: Novices can elect to run at whatever level they
choose. They are not required to run in a Novice class. (How about Boz
Elloy in his Boxster S in Novice 1I think that was the class). I wonder
if he was running on R tires and no one caught him at it. It looks like
he would have been very comfortable running in SS.
Kevin, I'm not quite sure what you mean by "prevent either one." There
are a lot of options available to any competitor.
Did I make it better or worse? :)
