I want to take a moment to address this tech issue, and give you all a
heads up as to how tech will work at the Boondoggle by the Bay. I have
not consulted with your co-chair, Vernon Head, on this, but I have
witnessed enough panic on the faces of fellow event chairs to come to
this decision, and I trust that Vernon will support me on this one.

WHY am a announcing this now? For those who don't know, the Boondoggle
has traditionally been the worst event of the year, before it was ever
called the Boondoggle.

The Boondoggle exposes ALL of our weaknesses. We have limited daylight
and our largest number of entrants. We have absolutely no room for
error.

What saves tech now is that the event chairs and a handful of volunteers
are stepping up to do it to save the event. Tech is now a half-assed
procedure.

We cannot take this risk at the Boondoggle, and event chairs should not
have to tech cars.

The Boondoggle by the Bay (January 27th) WILL be like this:

Tech will be on grid, but ONLY for the first run group. After that, tech
will be somewhere clearly designated, and NOT on grid, and it will close
at one o'clock.

There will still be two grids, A and B.

It is the competitor's responsibility to get his or her car teched and
on grid before it closes, or his or her last run will not count.

I'd like to get about two to three people to work tech per run group,
prior to one o'clock. If we're short a tech worker, we'll pull someone
from working course to fulfill that duty. We will make announcements
notifying competitors when grid for the next group will close, but
again, getting your car teched is YOUR responsibility. I encourage you
to take care of this and get your car on grid as soon as possible, or
you shall risk your last run not counting.

That's just the way it's going to be. After that, it's up to the event
chair, I guess, but Vernon and I are too close to having mental
breakdowns to accept anything else.
